Weaving calm into craft

Coolstep Knotworks began as a weekly practice group in a tiny studio with terracotta tiles and plants in sage ceramic. We set out to make macramé approachable and deeply satisfying: short sessions, gentle checkpoints, and designs that make a room feel grounded.

Mission

Teach macramé with clarity and care so that creative time restores energy, not drains it. We balance structure with play and keep instructions text-forward for accessibility.

Values

  • Kind pacing and sustainable workload
  • Evidence-informed craft ergonomics
  • Inclusive language and accessible layouts
  • Thoughtful sourcing and zero-fuss tools

Approach

Each course follows a “calm-then-build” arc: warm-up, learn, anchor, then play. Reflection prompts help you notice progress and keep a steady creative pulse.

Our story

Before Coolstep Knotworks, our founders taught fiber arts in community centers and design schools. We kept hearing the same thing: students wanted less noise and more intention. So we drafted knot maps, wrote cleaner instructions, and replaced long lectures with compact, purposeful steps.

Today, our catalog spans beginner coasters to advanced layered hangings. We publish regular updates, refine lessons based on feedback, and never use fake urgency. Learning should feel trustworthy and unhurried.

Team

Ari Lane — Creative Director

Text-first instructor and designer of the “Balanced Hanger” series. Loves clean lines and calm palettes.

Maya Chen — Lead Instructor

Guides beginner cohorts with clear, confidence-building steps and ergonomic hand care cues.

Jon Park — Curriculum Editor

Turns workshop notes into polished lessons and maintains our knot glossary with practical tips.

Sustainability notes

We recommend cords that last, simple wooden dowels, and projects that can be refreshed rather than discarded. We favor timeless designs over trends so your work remains treasured.
